Dry Eyes

The tear film helps to nourish the eye and focus the image on the back of the eye. It is made up of water, electrolytes, lipids and sugars, among other components. As we age many people experience increased discomfort, particularly in windy or dry environments, or during certain activities. Dry eyes may be associated with increased watering of the eyes.

At the Western Pennsylvania Eye Institute we evaluate your dry eye symptoms and begin you on one of the multiple treatment modalities that we feel will make you more comfortable, with the least amount of hassle. These treatment modalities include tips on how to make your eyes less dry during certain activities, medicines and plugging the outflow tract of the tear ducts.
